Healthy Recipe: Healthy Mushroom and Gouda Pizza Recipe


So you think that pizza is only meant for holiday calorie indulgences and can’t be a part of your daily healthy snack routine? We urge you to think that over again. Here’s a great healthy pizza recipe that is packed with the goodness of gouda cheese while adding mushrooms with their iron, calcium and protein goodness to your snack time. This mushrooms and gouda cheese pizza recipe calls for a whole wheat pizza crust, which you could buy from a convenience store, or prepare at home. And here it is…





1 tablespoon olive oilA mixture of mushroom (sauté mushroom in a pan with 1/4th tablespoon of oil, add basil leaves, herb mixture, rock salt and pepper to it)Prebaked whole wheat pizza crust (If preparing at home, then refer to pizza crust recipe at the bottom of this post)1/3 cup of coarsely grated smoked Gouda1 tablespoon of freshly chopped sage



Preheat the oven at 500°. Take a shallow baking pan and place your prebaked pizza crust over it.Arrange the mushroom mixture evenly on the pizza crust.Sprinkle over smoked Gouda cheese. Throw in freshly chopped sage over it. Bake at 500 degree Celsius. Cut the pizza into thin slices and serve with a healthy mustard dip.

Making your own whole wheat pizza crust:



Add 1 teaspoon sugar to a cup and a half of warm water. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon active dry yeast, and let stand until the mixture starts foaming.Now add 2 cups whole wheat flour, 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 to 1 tablespoon olive oil and salt to taste. Mix together till dough forms.Make a ball out of the dough and cover with a damp cloth. Let it sit for about an hour. This helps make the dough silkier and smoother.Now make a tight ball out of it, just big enough for one pizza crust. Roll it out after dipping in some dry flour to avoid sticking.Pre-heat oven to 220 degrees C, and then bake the crust for 15-18 minutes. 



NOTE: You can take the crust out at 10-12 minutes, top with mushroom mixture and gouda cheese and then bake for another 8-10 minutes, depending on thickness of crust and volume of toppings.
